RCT: File sequence

RCT: File sequence

Start with smallest file and follow sequence before jumping to Flared Rotary files.

    • Scanning Electron microscope image of root canal wall after Bio-Mechanical Preparation (BMP)
    • Rail tracks are formed on root canal walls when a bigger file is aggressively used to enlarge a canal. These rail tracks have a sharp edge that prevents the smooth sliding of file along the wall.
    •  The bigger the file, larger is the area that remains untouched at the thin curves of canal.
    • Imagine you are driving on a speed breaker and how your wheel missed touching the area next to speed breaker.
    •  Starting with smallest file that feels like engaging the canal but not binding, doing circumferential cleaning with enough irrigation to clean the wall thoroughly, moving sequentially to bigger numbers till no.20, starting and ending with 4% rotary file, smoothening out the big humps that would have obstructed the smooth filling, recapitulating the working lengths with smaller hand files.
    • Sequence and irrigation will add longevity and success to your root canal treatments.
    • Is Longevity and success are 2 different things. Yes,
      • Longevity is just the years that tooth is present in patient's mouth.
      • Success is fully functioning healthy treated tooth with healthy gingiva, periodontium and bone.
